Update on this Season

IMG_5224 copySummer is upon us and it’s hot and humid here in DFW. 2017 has been a challenging year so far. Our daughter discovered that she was having identical twin boys and that one of them wasn’t getting enough nourishment in the womb. She underwent a surgical procedure where the surgeon mapped every blood vessel and rerouted some to the baby in need. (amazing that they can do that!) The pregnancy continued and in late February her water broke at 28 weeks. She was then hospitalized and managed to keep the boys in for 2 more weeks. They were born in March at thirty weeks and placed in the NICU. Parker, the larger one progressed and was released, but Jace, the smaller one had complications and stayed in the NICU for 100 days including a surgery and time in the cardiac ICU. He went home on oxygen, a plethora of meds, and is awaiting another heart surgery when he is 6 months old. We have made many trips to Bentonville, AR (6 hour drive) and to Little Rock (also a 6 hour drive). In the midst of all of that Debra traveled once a month to San Jose, CA for training related to her job.

In May we entered into a transition of our own. For the previous 14 months I had the privilege to serve on staff at our home church, Gateway, in Southlake, Texas. It was a wonderful experience working with wonderful people. I am grateful for the time spent there, but that season has changed and we are in the process of determining where this new path will lead us. In the meantime, I am reading my own book, Thriving In Transition, to remind myself that I can do more than survive this transition — I can Thrive! (You may have noticed the social media posts have picked up) We are confident that the way forward is a good one and that it will lead us to a good place.

Transitions are inevitable in life, but they can be beneficial as well. The outcome often depends on our choices, attitude, and perspective. If you are experiencing a season of transition, you are not alone, weird, or being singled out. I’m right there with you. I would like to suggest that the book, Thriving In Transition, may be as timely for you as it is for me right now.
